Counseling appointment questions
The first appointment - What to expect. The first appointment focuses on getting to know one another. You will share why you are choosing to seek additional support through counseling. At the end of the appointment we will discuss what services are recommended, if those services are available through Willow Tree Counseling or through another agency, and discuss a plan for addressing your concerns (this will include identifying your goals, the type of therapy, how frequently we will meet, and how long services will last). In the event that we do not provide the service that you are seeking we will assist in providing a referral to another provider.
Follow-up appointments During subsequent sessions we will start to address your concerns as we had discussed previously. Your role in this process will require you to be open, honest, & willing to try new things. At times you may be asked to discuss difficult emotions and experiences. Depending on the therapy used, you may receive homework that will be due during your next session. It is up to you as to how much you put into counseling, but we encourage you to be ready to engage in the process.
Length of appointments The length of your appointments may range from 30 minutes to 55 minutes. We don't believe in a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. The fee for your appointment will be based on the amount of time in the appointment and whether it is the intake appointment, follow-up appointment or consultation.
How do I access my virtual appointment? Please read the virtual appointment quick guide at: https://www.willowtreecounselingfm.com/telehealth
How long will I be in counseling? This is a challenging question to answer as it depends on your individual needs and goals. Each counseling journey is unique. Some people may require or request 5-10 sessions, which is considered brief therapy. Other clients may require or request additional sessions to allow for the time & space to be able to explore & address their concerns. Your counselor will provide you with a recommendation for the tentative length of services based on what you are experiencing.
What if I am dissatisfied with counseling? If you are dissatisfied with your counseling experience please notify your counselor. Once you notified, your counselor will ask you additional questions to understand how you are dissatisfied and explore whether a different counseling approach would be appropriate. Let your counselor know if you feel your counselor is not the 'right fit' for you and if you would like a referral to another provider.
