Depression

Have you been feeling drained, stuck in a rut, or like you're just going through the motions on autopilot? You might be experiencing symptoms of depression. It’s completely normal for your mood to shift from time to time—especially after big life changes like losing a loved one, retiring, or being laid off. But if you’ve noticed these feelings lasting longer than two weeks and they’re starting to affect your daily life, it may be time to reach out to a counselor for support.

Common symptoms of depression can include:

  • Persistent sadness

  • Feeling worthless

  • Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed

  • Difficulty focusing on tasks, remembering things or making decisions

  • Feeling numb

  • Feeling withdrawn from others

  • Fatigue

  • Not attending to personal hygiene

  • Change in weight

  • Change in sleep (sleeping less than usual or more than usual)

  • Increased use of substances

  • Moving or speaking so slowly that others notice

  • Feeling like burden

  • Thoughts of wanting to die

*If you are currently experiencing thoughts of suicide, please seek emergency help by contacting:

Your local emergency department

The suicide prevention line (Dial 988)

911 Emergency services if you have an immediate plan to harm yourself.

Depression looks different for everyone, so treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. Research shows that a combination of therapy and medication is often the most effective approach. At Willow Tree, our counselors can help you explore therapy options that may be right for you, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), neurobiologically based counseling, or EMDR. If you're also interested in learning more about medication, we’re happy to provide referrals and guide you through that process.
