ANXIETY
Common signs and symptoms
Is your mind always racing with "what ifs" or worst-case scenarios, even in situations that don’t really call for that level of worry? Or maybe you have trouble relaxing or have difficulty falling asleep at night due to worry. Perhaps you notice that you are on edge regardless of the situation you are in.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD, is when someone experiences constant and overwhelming worry about everyday things—like their health, job, relationships, or money—even if there's no real reason to be that concerned. And the anxiety isn’t something you can just switch off—it’s hard to control, and it can really start to affect your daily life.

It usually develops slowly over time and can happen to anyone, regardless of age. It's also pretty common for GAD to show up alongside other mental health issues, like depression or other types of anxiety.

Treatment for generalized anxiety disorder involves counseling and in some situations, you may benefit from medication. At Willow Tree, our counselors can help you better understand your symptoms, learn coping skills to manage your anxiety and offer support in the process. We can also provide referrals if you’d like to explore medication options with a medical provider.
